Royalties & Compensation

How much will you earn per book sale?

Our royalty structure is transparent and straightforward. Your earnings are not based on vague percentages — they are calculated using a clear formula you can understand.

How Royalties Are Calculated

Your royalty is calculated using this formula:
Your Royalty = Retail Price – Distribution Discount – Print Charge
This ensures fairness and transparency.

1️⃣ Retail Price (RRP)

This is the price you choose for your book.

You control your retail price.

2️⃣ Distribution Discount

This is the discount you offer to distribution partners (major retailers and wholesalers).

You decide the discount percentage.

  • Minimum discount through us: 25%

  • Recommended for bookstore availability: 55%

3️⃣ Print Charge

The print charge is the actual printing cost per copy.

This is the same cost used for author copies.

It is based on:

  • Page count

  • Print cost per page

  • Base unit cost

Worked Example

Let’s say:

Retail Price = $12.00
Distribution Discount = 25%
Print Charge = $3.0

Step 1 — Calculate Distribution Discount

$12.00 × 25% = $3.0

Step 2 — Apply Royalty Formula

Royalty = $12.00 – $3.00 – $3.00
Royalty per book = $6.00

You earn $6.00 for every copy sold.

How Print Charge Is Calculated

Example for a Small Paperback (Black & White):

Unit Cost per Book = $0.95
Print Cost per Page = $0.019
Book Page Count = 108 pages

Formula:

Print Charge = (Page Count × Print Cost per Page) + Unit Cost

Print Charge = (108 × $0.019) + $0.95
Print Charge ≈ $3.00

This is the cost deducted per sale.

How Royalties Are Paid

Royalties become payable no sooner than one quarter after the first month of sale.

Payment schedule:

  • Paid monthly if $100 or more is due

  • Paid quarterly if less than $100 is due

Canadian authors:
